Our Celtic Tiger Never Disappoints

Jim Flaherty is a courageous man. Faced with an onslaught of demands for pet stimulus projects, the finance minister looks ready to cut taxes. Let us, consumers, workers and employers, keep more cash and spend it as we see fit.

Rock on, Jim! I've got your back.

So, why am I saying that tax cuts are a courageous thing to do?

Because the coalition will never go for it. Never. They want tax increases. They want to guard Canadian money from Canadians.

So, here comes Prime Minister Iggy and Deputy Prime Minister Gilles.

It only makes sense, especially a cut to GST. The US proved that any income tax cut is likely going to go to savings or personal debt reduction. A GST cut is only of value to people spending money now - which is exactly what the economy needs.
Another good incentive would be a short term tax credit plan for capital investments completed this year.
There are some infrastructure plans that make sense such as pothole repairs, bridge repairs etc., but infrastructure projects needing extensive engineering, long environmental assessments or public consultation (like subways and high speed trains) won't provide any stimulus for years or decades so they're not an option.

If and when the separatist coalition defeat the govt, an election will be called that will send the Liberals to their worst defeat since confederation.

The smartest thing they did was get the "consultation" process going (as the Coalition demanded) - I mean, what else can they do if those who the Coalition demanded they consult, tell them to do tax cuts instead of stimulus???

Brilliant!!!

Get rid of the GST, even if it takes 10 years and a point at a time. The worst thing that Mulroney did in what was otherwise a good government. Let Canadians spend their own money. (real conservative)

Well, at the very least, he should remove the GST from beer and popcorn.

(Oh, and wine and tampons, of course.)

(Whew. That was CLOSE.)

Good boy.
