Canvassing Canada
(Chuckercanuck rolls up with camera crew in tow, showing off his door-to-door canvassing powers).
(CC knocks on door. Waits a few seconds. Door opens to a cheery lady).
CC: Hello mam, my name is -
Lady: What? You don't need an introduction -
CC: Yes, I do mam. I don't know YOU. You don't know ME. I'm just canvassing my community to drum up support for the Tories.
Lady: What do you mean, I don't know YOU? You live he-
CC: Here in the neighourhood, that's true. You probably have seen me about. But what I want to talk about is leadership and Stephen Harper.
Lady: We just talked about this over breakfast!
CC: We meaning you and your family, mam. Not me and you. We, as in me and you, have never talked before in all my life.
Lady: Something's fishy here.
CC: What's fishy, mam, if you'll consider it, is the massive tax grab that Stephane Dion plans to use to fund his pet social justice projects under the banner of saving the planet.
Lady: I know. I know.
CC: So, you agree with me and I can count on you supporting the Tories in the coming election.
Lady: No, I know that because that's what you said this morn -
CC: Chat over. (Chuckercanuck grabs the doorknob to shut the door on the lady.) Thanks for your time. Vote early. Vote often. (nervously to the camera) That was a joke. Ha! Ha! A Joke.

Hehe that was fun! Now where are the 22-Minutes folks so they can satirize the hell out of good ol' Halton John?
Latest from Ekos...
CPC 38%
Libs 23%
NDP 19%
CPC leading in every region, including Atlantic Canada, but except Quebec, where they're trailing the BLOC.

Guess what, my roommate is running in the election and he's making similar canvasing phonecalls right now, funny enough.
Sorry I missed the "Layton could be Opposition" post a few entries down... I can sure see that happening, and I wouldn't mind it - I like to see a shake-up in politics.
I've been waffling between the Tories and Greens, I decided this morning to vote Green. May is an idiot, but it's not like the Tories need my vote, and I'd like to see the Greens become viable and legitimate so that jokers like May can fall by the wayside. The NDP will win this riding as a fairly foregone conclusion, so I figure this is my best contribution.

except that supporting the greens is supporting ms. may, and therefore is not a good way to get rid of her. i think you should vote for what you honestly believe in jason. everyone should.
Thanks for the caution, anonymous.
I honestly believe the Greens can be a great non-left/non-right party in the future under a better leader, and after a lot of thought in the last two weeks, I think getting over 5% in the election will help bring that about, eventually. It's been a tough choice due to my lack of respect for May - but that's the best decision I can make for now.

Sort of like a Conservative who doesn't like Joe Clark, but goes for them anyway - or a Liberal who dislikes Dion but votes Liberal.
Jason,
You might want to read up on the crackpots Lizzy May has let into the Green Party as candidates...
Preston Manning was always quick to boot the crackpots from the Reform Party. May is more resistant.

New Mustel poll out today...
BC Voters Supporting Federal Conservatives
Conservatives 39%
NDP 25%
Liberals 24%
Greens 12%
Mustel would be the British Columbia equivalent to CROP in Quebec...definitive.
Some thoughts:
1. The Liberals were never big federally here. Now, however, they are on their way to rump status.
2. The anti carbon tax vote (CPC + NDP) is 64%. Pro carbon tax (LPC + Green) is 36%. If I were Premier Campbell, I'd be a little worried. Listening to CKNW the last few weeks, there are plenty of BC Liberal supporters who are so disgusted that they are considering their options.
3. For all the talk that the Greens have lots of support in British Columbia, 12% still seems pretty weak. At this rate, they would be hard pressed to get anyone elected in their supposed stronghold.
4. It appears that NDP gains have been made at the expense of the Liberals. The Greens haven't gained a bit in their supposed stronghold.

Wait until the greenies or wanna-be greenies see their dear leader perform on the tube...they'll be wishing for joe green.
I would feel sorry for those poor folks who have to transcribe Hansard if Lizzie ever got into the HoC.

Springer is running scared because he is purposefully lying outright about the polls on the West Coast.
What you see happening is that the Liberals/Greens middle of the road forces growing daily on many issues that are going to kick the "neocons" right out of BC.
BC folks are politically astute and they know how to read the tea leaves as well as anyone else in Canada.
What they see is the melt down in the US, with much more still to come, and they see the past minority government as a real restraint on Harper, who but for that minority government, would have brought this whole calamity south of the border into Canada.
Banking Regulations in Canada did much to reduce the effects of these financial disasters that Emperor George II brought to his people, but make no mistake, Springer and the rest of the fifth columnists behind him that work for the CIA are working overtime to spread their "risk" onto the backs of Canadian taxpayers.
The US Government bailout of AIG is the largest in history, dwarfing even the 1929 Great Depression. But the capitalists that authored this crash, are laughing all the way to the banks they own, because they get the money, and the American taxpayer gets to pay the bills. That is what American Capitalism is really all about. And that is what Harper and the Republikan Sleezebags that surround him, like Jason Kenney and Ted Morton, are trying so hard to bring into Canada.
If the Liberal Party comes together behind Mr. Dion and explain the alternatives that Harper is actually presenting, I am very confident that we will see a Liberal Majority Government. Not only support in BC, but also in Quebec and Ontario.
And if that happens, Mr. Stelmach will be sitting across the table from a pragmatic politician like himself.
The age of fanatics in Canadian Politics is drawing to a close.
When Harper goes down, and he will, that will be the end of the "neocon" invasion, because it will fail just as surely as the first Amerikan Invasion of Canada in 1812.

I hope Jason watched May on CTV just now.
Egads.
My assistant is wishing they would have set up some wind turbines in place of a microphone.
Energy crisis... over.

Fuck, ain't it funny how the Libs are trying to prop up poor Dion.I know they are trying for the sympathy votes but this is rediculous.
Here's the scene:
First on comes the destroyer of Ontario's economy, Bob Rae, talking about the dear leader. His job is to tell us what DION is going to say. After Dion comes on and fractures our funny bone with his language skills the CBC brings on Boag and LeBlanc to tell us what DION just said. Apparently it's the Liberal audition for the replacement show for 22 minutes!

"I've been waffling between the Tories and Greens,"
Then......
"The age of fanatics in Canadian Politics is drawing to a close.

Yep sounds to me like someone "waffling" over who to vote for.
Come on Jason, we're all grownups here - don't pull a Garth; although you might think like Liz that Canadians ARE stupid!

Further to a previous thread and reminded of my own propensities...Thanks for the satirical twist on the issues of the day. Always well written and and worth a laugh.
JG on the other hand is a natural when it comes to mocking political extremism, it's in his dna.
Self satirizing blow hards are both rare and precious. Then again as someone else already noted this site offers both a dose of smarm and senility.

Hey Springer! Fuckin Joe Green thinks you're still workin for the CIA. Dumb cunt ain't smart enough to know that we gave up that shit years ago and took our pensions which we now so gloriously spend on booze and broads and lots of good country music.
That empty-inside prick doesn't have a goddam clue what real living is.

Here's a sign that the Liberals are in trouble...
They recruited a 19 year old poli sci student to run as the candidate in my riding.
Normally, this is done by the NDP or Greens in ridings where they don't have a hope of winning.
Likewise, the Liberals don't have a hope of winning my riding, but in the past, they have (I believe) recruited people like business people, local politicians and lawyers to run.
This riding isn't strongly Tory. My MP only gets a plurality, not an outright majority, of the vote, and he's kind of a fencepost...largely invisible in the local and national eye.
That the Liberals would nominate a 19 year old kid is very telling of their organisation.
...
Add to that, the NDP candidate used to be a candidate for the Canadian Action Party.
If you go to the CAP website, it's a hodge-podge of paranoid lefty conspiracy theories from a US take-over of Canada, to 9-11.
The question is: did the candidate bail on the CAP for the NDP because of CAP's paranoid delsusions, or does the NDP embrace this paranoia?

Yep, same shit that Hal Banks did.
Why don't you both fuck off to a boat in the USA? That is what Hal did after he retired from his job in the CIA of intimidating Canadian Union members who did not wish to belong to US based unions run by the mob.
At least there is some good news however as it affects your pensions. With the melt down over the next few days, there will be much less money for you bums to blow on hookers and booze.
Bye Bye Ms. Amerikan Pie!
