Stephane Dion: SAVE PLUTO!

Scientists have discovered an unwelcome trend in the solar system: objects orbiting the Sun are getting warmer. Pluto, for instance, has warmed up 3 degrees in the past few years. Of course, of course - just because Pluto is getting warmer, Jupiter is getting warmer and Saturn's moons are getting warmer has nothing to do with Earth getting warmer. These are completely unrelated phenomena and only a wicked climate-change denier would raise this red herring.

Top climate change scientists - small digression: notice the media always refer to climate change scientists as "top climate change scientists" - I'd love to know how we decide who's tops and who's bottoms. Is it a bikini competition that puts one scientist above another for the prize of "top climate change scientist"? And, aren't any of us curious to know what the dumber climate change scientists think? Are they classified as such by virtue of being climate-change deniers? Back to the point, top climate change scientists have done a piss-poor job explaining why the Sun has an inconsequential effect on the mean temperature of planet Earth.

How do their climate models account for trends in solar activity over the next century? Its a fascinating question with extremely important consequences on human civilization. Let's pretend for a second that the Sun plays a critical role in determining the climate of Earth - a wacky thesis, I know, but fun to contemplate. For example, about 1,500 years ago there was a mini Ice Age about 70 years long correlated - by some of those more retarded scientists - to a slow period on the Sun. Should something like that happen, no amount of farm subsidies in the US and Europe would replace a desperate need for agricultural products from the southern hemisphere. Do we have the political structures to adapt to swings in solar output? Or would we revert to our primitive selves, bomb the shit out of the southern hemisphere and claim the land for our own farming needs?

Similarly, if solar output increases, warming up our planet - again, Kyoto Krowd, suspend disbelief for another second - how would we adapt, given that our only working solutions today involve moving off fossil fuels which would have no affect at all. If ice caps melt and low-lying lands flood inspite of massive civilizational re-engineering, what do we do then?

Okay. Re-instate dis-belief. The sun, as we all know, thanks to Top Climate Change Scientists, has nothing to do with how warm it gets on Earth. Let's get on with buying carbon credits from Putin.

It probably has something to do with which scientists receive the greatest funding in the global warming industry.

"Or would we revert to our primitive selves, bomb the shit out of the southern hemisphere and claim the land for our own farming needs."

Is this why Harper wants a majority?

J/K

Don, must admit, that was funny!

D-d-d-dion must be c-c-c-careful about saving P-p-p-pluto.

It m-m-m-might offend m-m-m-muslims if they think he means the c-c-c-cartoon character b-b-b-because he is an un-c-c-c-clean dog. And h-h-h-he needs the muslim vote.

Because Pluto is not, as of 2006, a planet, we're under no obligation to save it. Liberals are only out to save planets from climate change and outer space from hosting weapons...nothing else.

RGM,

as per usual - sharp logic clears the debate for us. lol!

So, all evil Stephen Harper has to do is have astronomers declare Earth an asteroid.

There was an Ice Age in 500 AD? I think you might be off there by about 1,000 years.

Good catch Red!

My trip to the museum of London learned me all about skating on the Thames in elizabethan times.

but then, I'm a wicked "climate-change denier!!!!" (cue audience disgust).

Here's some interesting info for the Kyoto Kommies to chew on...

Termites and Co2

The global emissions of methane and carbon dioxide are 19.7 +/- 1.5 and 3500 +/- 700 Mt yr-1, respectively (1 Mt=1012 g) . These emissions contribute approximately 4% and 2%. respectively, to the total global fluxes of these gases. This database gives an accurate distribution of the biomasses and gaseous emissions by termites and may be incorporated into global models of the atmosphere.

Mr. Moyer discovered several years ago that termites produce more CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2) each year than all other living organisms combined.

Hmmmmm.....

Here's a little more...

Termites - Quotes from Science Magazine
Termite and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Facts:
Termites produce more Carbon Dioxide (CO2) each year than all living things combined.

Scientists have calculated that termites alone produce ten times as much carbon dioxide as all the fossil fuels burned in the whole world in a year.

Pound for pound, the weight of all the termites in the world is greater than the total weight of humans.

Scientists estimate that, worldwide, termites may release over 150 million tons of methane gas into the atmosphere annually. In our lower atmosphere this methane then reacts to form carbon dioxide and ozone.

It is estimated that for every human on Earth there may be 1000 pounds of termites.

On the average Termites expel gas composed of about 59% nitrogen, 21% hydrogen, 9% carbon dioxide, 7% methane, and 4% oxygen.

It is thought "There are 2,600 different species of termites, and it is estimated that there are at least a million billion individual termites on Earth that they emit two and four percent of the global carbon dioxide and methane budget, respectively-both mediated directly or indirectly by their microbes.

Termites eat cellulose, but they can not digest it without the help of microorganisms in their gut. Single-celled protozoan are the primary organisms that break the bonds that turn cellulose into units of glucose, and from there, the termite can break the glucose bonds, release the energy, and give off carbon dioxide and water.

Science magazine reports that termites annually generate more than twice as much carbon dioxide as mankind does burning fossil fuels.
One termite species annually emits 600,000 metric tons of formic acid into the atmosphere, an amount equal to the combined contributions of automobiles, refuse combustion and vegetation.

Will governments start charging the individual for the privilege of breathing by imposing a "carbon tax."???

Slightly off topic...

On another blog I frequent, I've notified them about an article that does away with the whole Canadian MSM mythology that PM Harper is some kind of GOP wannabe, and wants to turn our Dominion into the 51st state.

The big surprise is that the article is in the Globe and Mail!

Splendor,

usually, the idea of "getting closer to Europe" isn't something that makes me happy....

but this was terrific.

if you want a little counterpointal scare -- visit Bo Green's site where he has You Tubed "Undercover Mosque" - a BBC investigative report in 9 parts.

I learned the word "Kuffar" and it scares the crap out of me!

Ok, now this kind of shit pisses me off to no end!

Hero beaten

Real tough guys too. It took four of them to jump the guy from behind!

Wow!!! Joanne, terrific link!!! I hope everyone watches that documentary video.

"It's become a religion. And people who don't believe are called heretics."

I think I've read that somewhere before, eh?

Heh!

Okay, I'm only halfway through that video now...and I'm so fucking outraged at the scope of this fucking Kyoto/Global warming bullshit I can't even speak!!!

Just wait until you get to the part about sun spot activity and the weather trends of the last 100 years!!!

Your head will fucking spin right off your shoulders!!!!!!!!!

You mean that ball of firey gas that's hundreds of thousands of times bigger than the earth,

which provides the sole source of heat for not just Earth, but the entire solar system,

may have something to do with the earth's temperature (or its relative changes)?

Hmmmmm. How odd.

I thought we humans were at the center of the solar system, not the sun.

A picture is worth a thousand words (or climate change denying videos),

a really cool picture of a solar eclipse from thousands of K's away from the earth, gives you an unbelievable reminder of the Sun's power:

Boy, this video only gets better and better...and makes you only angrier and angrier.

Now I'm at the part where the lefties...and in particular, the anti-American whackos...seized the agenda to their own ends.

Astounding stuff!!!

Amazing article - must read this in more detail. Away babysitting and runoff my feet - will be around though.

You know, now that I've watched that documentary, there's a parallel that occurs to me.

Most people, even if you put it right in front of them, knowing just the gist of it, will not take the time to watch it.

Why?

For the very same reason most people (i.e., Christians) would NOT take the time to watch the documentary regarding the tomb of Jesus.

It conflicts with their beliefs.

It is incredible...and remarkably unfortunate for this world...how desperately people will cling to their beliefs.

And justify it so under the heading of "faith".

Yet the irony is that, were their "faith" even remotely as solid as they protest, they would not be afraid to investigate information to the contrary.

So, then what are we really talking about here?

Fear.

Fear of rejection.

Fear of being wrong.

Fear of the actual truth.

Fear of not conforming to the prevailing mindset, or "social norm".

Fear of standing alone.

Fear of taking responsibility for one's own beliefs.

People somehow always have lots of time for "convention".

They rarely ever have time, even mere minutes, for anything that goes against "convention".

It is sadly ironic that, as we more forward into the 21st century, the greatest achievement of our modern times appears to be the ability by which technology can be employed to herd human beings like simple sheep better than ever even imagined possible just a few short decades ago.

So Margaret Thatcher started the CO2 global warming scare? Amazing...

Global Warming Replaces 9/11 As Justification To Do Anything

Stop asking questions and just let us tax the living hell out of you, including the very air you breathe, after all - it's for the environment and we've never lied to you before have we?

It is incredible...and remarkably unfortunate for this world...how desperately people will cling to their beliefs.

Fear of the actual truth.

Fear of not conforming to the prevailing mindset, or "social norm".

Yahoo news, Mon Mar 12

Gordon Brown, likely to be the next prime minister, will deliver a speech calling for a "new world order" to combat global warming...

I think Global Warming is bullshit. I also think it's going to cost me a lot of money. Already politicians have been forced to spend billions of tax payer dollars. Mostly caused by misinformation and scaremongering by the media. I believe taxpayers of good conscience should band together and sue the petunias out of every identifiable perpetrator of the heinous assault on our pocketbooks. And insult to our intelligence. Beginning with the media. Anyone one know a good lawyer?
